The International Conference, “Science and Information Technologies for Sustainable Management of Aquatic Ecosystems”, have been promoted and scientifically coordinated by the International Association for Hydraulic Engineering and Research (IAHR), the International Water Association (IWA), the International Association forHydrological Sciences (IAHS) and the International Aquatic Modelling Group (IAMG).

Management of water resources and understanding ecological consequences of natural or anthropogenic perturbations is demanding a greater understanding of fundamental processes, more sophisticated predictive models and implementation of adaptive management strategies. These new demands often require interdisciplinary approaches and are facilitated by rapid advances in sensor technology, cyberinfrastructure and regional or global communications.

This conference intends to provide a forum to exchange ideas and information related to these emerging technologies and recent advances in the general areas of hydroinformatics, ecohydraulics and ecohydrology-ecodroecology.

The conference will be organized in parallel events and sessions focusing on either ecohydraulics topics or hydroinformatics topics and a special suite of sessions focusing on the interface between hydroinformatics and ecohydraulics.

Chile is a country of contrasts, from the desert in the north to the ices of the south of the country; from the Aymara ancestors to the Onas, going through the Rapanuians, Mapuches, Cuncos and others. That is Chile, an extensive country of approximately 4,329 km long – which reaches the 8.000 km of the Antarctic territory is included- located between the 17°30’ and 90° south latitude and between 66°25’ and the 75°42’ west longitude. At the same time, the different kinds of climate, from subtropical in the I Region to polar in the Antarctic, enable the development of a relevant biodiversity and different productive activities.

The International Conference on “Science and Information Technologies for Sustainable Management of Aquatic Ecosystems”, i.e., the joint meeting, of the 7th International Symposium on Ecohydraulics and the 8th International Conference on Hydroinformatics will be held at 12-16 January 2009, in the city of Concepción, Chile. More than 800 professional. academics and students working on water sciences and technology are expected to attend this conference.

We welcome you to Concepción, south central Chile, not only to share knowledge and challenges, but also to enjoy our nature and culture.
